Let\u2019s start with a question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When was the last time you had a conversation with someone without talking about Corona?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It does honestly feel like forever to me \u2013 and I am guessing I won\u2019t be able to completely avoid the topic in this article either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since March Corona has followed us wherever we go, like a negative, dark shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many \u2013 if not all of us, were affected in their professional and private life and had to adapt\u2013 what a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But before continuing with the rather negative aspects of corona, I would like to set a different tone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wow, what a year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For us at zapliance 2020 was definitely one of the most challenging but at the same time the most eventful years we had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People & Progress<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you read our blog and follow what is happening at zapliance, then you often only read it explained from my perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But of course there is an entire team<\/a> behind me, without literally nothing would be possible at zapliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And also that team has faced a lot of change this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just in time, Steffi joined our team in March and had to immediately deal with urgent topics as the new HR Manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, what Corona means for the employer and the employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another challenge for Steffi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restructuring our team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a very typical start up structure, which wasn\u2019t very clear at times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe an actual structure never existed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steffi had to immediately think about important topics such as meeting culture and personal development \u2013 It\u2019s amazing Steffi is here now!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sophie was the second addition to the team this year, who moved back to her home in Hamburg after living in Dublin for several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you and me are connected on LinkedIn, you might have noticed a lot has changed since June thanks to Sophie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next to our LinkedIn communication Sophie is also responsible for Marketing and has brought some seriously fresh breeze into our office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last joining this year is Dennis, who literally started two days ago and will be helping in customer and project support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An additional hand is quite overdue, because this year was quite busy, but more about that later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now we are definitely ready to give our customers 110% in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September we also had quite a few guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steffi and Ivone organized the auditor\u2019s roundtable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Probably not the easiest task given the current situation and the restrictions we had to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully, our office is quite large and has more than enough space for just a small group of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great to see each other in person, talk about latest industry trends and discuss the results of some of our student projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope it was as much fun to our guests as it was for me and hope we will be able to have pizza and beer in person soon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Products & Projects<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Did you follow our zap Audit free campaign which was running from April to June?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me explain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, very early on in the pandemic, we offered a free-of-charge full zap Audit version to new customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We wanted to help those companies in those difficult times with what we know best:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our expert knowledge and our software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This led to something super exciting for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We received more customer feedback and suggestions than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of all tickets that were implemented in the zap audit 2.5 update, 33% originated from Customer Support, so from your feedback!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks for that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We supervise and support around 30 students here at zapliance ever year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year especially the results were fantastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, Malte and his team were working on the project \u201cDesign and implementation of an interactive virtual reality risk world map for corporations\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were able to see \u2013 or better experience their results firsthand with VR glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone was able to give the glasses a go and fly like Captain Kirk in a spaceship \u2013 only in a world full of transactions and invoices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great fun, even though it felt a bit awkward in the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have the chance to try VR glasses, you should definitely give it a go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simeon\u2019s project was also super interesting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discovery of duplicate payments with the help of artificial, neural networks using zapliance as an example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sounds complicated right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because it really is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simeon really knocked it out of the park on this one, respect!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, he received a data set from us and developed a model, that can detect if a payment was incorrectly paid twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea for this project is based on zap Cash \u2013 our Artificial Intelligence software that can find duplicate payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think our development team was the most excited about Simeon\u2019s results as they were able to implement many of the ideas into zap Cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking about zap Cash:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are busy developing the software nonstop and once there is more exciting news, you\u2019ll be the first to know!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can tell form our highlights, there was really a lot to do at zapliance \u2013 and we are continuing full speed until Christmas so we can close this year successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For you to close your year successfully too, I have a few tips for you, which will make it easier for you to prepare for your holidays, start fresh into 2021 and leave old baggage in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First things first: Make a To-Do list.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Depending on when you go on leave, it might be a few weeks or days until Christmas and your well-deserved break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I personally like to think about what needs to be done before I leave on holidays as early as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You probably aren\u2019t the only one leaving for their holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your colleagues from other specialist departments are likely also on leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, the earlier you close any open matters with them, the less stress you and they will have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My tip:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prioritize!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either with a To-Do list or just in your head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the best way to avoid unnecessary stress before Christmas!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throw out what you don\u2019t need.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do we really need everything we have so carefully, but mindlessly curated over the last 12 months?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You probably need less than half of what you have saved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a look in your files and folders on your computer and delete what you don\u2019t need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Same for your mindset:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free yourself from unnecessary things and resolve any open issues in this year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next stop:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a look at the big picture and see what can go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget your desk drawers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sort out your paper files \u2013 you will see it\u2019s almost like meditating and helps to start the new year fresh, sorted and with motivation!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You wouldn\u2019t want to take all the messy baggage into the next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you really want to be precise, why not disinfect your computer mouse and keyboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I bet it\u2019s been a while!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breathe in and take a look at what you have accomplished.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s called a Christmas break for a reason, time for your break!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well only if you have already sorted out all your presents for your loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This reminds me of something:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I still need a present for my wife!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any recommendations?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okay back to the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a break, you deserve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year was tough, no doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But besides the challenges and the resulting opportunities to improve, you should really take a step back and be proud of yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Think about your successes this year and celebrate them with your family, who is probably also very proud of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My last tip for now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget to say \u2018Thank you\u2019 \u2013 it goes a long way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The time before Christmas is stressful for many people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try to actively look for opportunities to thank your coworkers or your team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe you could even celebrate your successes together with a glass of mulled wine via Microsoft Teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2021 is just around the corner, so cheers to your future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
